Pepper Trail is situated in Mangalam Carp Estate, a spice and coffee plantation deep in the Western Ghats in Kerala.
Mangalam Carp Estate was founded in the 1800s by Colin Auley Mackenzie, one of the pioneer planters of the period. He planted coffee, tea & spices in over 200 acres of the estate. In 1932, the estate was bought by P. Balram Kurup, a pioneer in the cultivation of rare spice and aromatic plants. With his efforts, the plantation is now home to the most exotic and extensive range of flora in
Wayanad. Managed by the family’s third generation, every effort is taken to preserve the traditional farming methods established by its founders.
The lands and the house echo of its proud past and of a plantation life unchanged over the last hundred years.
